Orbshot

Screenshots that look designed. Recordings that edit themselves.

Orbshot captures, beautifies and records on your Mac — and keeps every effect in a recording adjustable forever, because it never touches the raw file.

Free with no time limit. macOS 14 or later.

What it actually does

Capture to post-ready in two seconds

Every capture is padded, rounded, shadowed and placed on a plate the moment you take it. There is no second app to open and nothing to line up by hand.

Auto-zoom that follows your clicks — and can still be changed

The recorder writes a clean screen track and a separate track of what you did. Every zoom, ripple and keystroke badge is re-derived at export, so you can adjust or switch any of it off months later.

It finds the sensitive data before you send it

Cards, keys, tokens and addresses are found and verified — Luhn, mod-97, entropy — then shown to you as a list before anything is blurred. A false positive that blurs your headline is worse than a miss.

Redaction that checks itself

Features

One app where there were two

Capture anything

Area, window, full screen, self-timer, and a scrolling capture that stitches a long page into one tall image with the sticky headers taken out.

Beautify by default

16 original palettes, padding, corner radius, shadow and aspect — with the same geometry used by the preview, the exporter and the recording renderer, so a clip and a still look like siblings.

Non-destructive recording

A recording is a folder holding clean video, an event track and the edit. Change your mind about a zoom from last month and it re-renders.

Redaction that checks itself

Ten kinds of sensitive data, each verified rather than pattern-matched, with the list shown before a single pixel is blurred.

One editor window

Stills and recordings open as tabs in the same window. Annotations are real objects you can select, move, re-aim and re-edit, stored against the source so changing the padding never moves an arrow off its target.

Text off the screen

Drag out a region and the text lands on the clipboard. Columns are detected, so a two-column layout reads down each column. Thai and English, recognised on the Mac.

Measured, not claimed

168–205 fps
export throughput at 1280×720 on the machine this was built on
150–200 ms
to read the text off a 1280×800 capture
0
images, recordings or recognised text that leave your Mac

Questions

The things people ask first

What happens when a licence runs out?

You lose the ceiling, never the work. Every project still opens, still edits and still exports — at the free limits. Orbshot does not hold your files.

Does it work offline?

Yes. A licence is a signed token the app verifies on your Mac, with a fortnight of grace, so nothing phones home to check. A failed licence check changes nothing.

Is the free version a trial?

No. It has no time limit, records video of any length, and puts no watermark on anything. What it will not do is export above 720p at 30 fps.

Where do my screenshots go?

Onto your Mac and nowhere else. There is no cloud storage, no sync and no upload — the only thing Orbshot ever sends is a licence check.

How many Macs can I use it on?

Two at a time on a Pro licence, and you can move a seat from your account page as often as you like. A Mac that has been repaired is exactly the case that page exists for.
